Diplomatic mission opens vacancy for experienced driver with Japanese licence and bilingual skills; applications close September 14, 2026
The Embassy of Ghana in Tokyo has announced a vacancy for the position of Utility Driver, inviting qualified individuals to apply for the role.
According to the vacancy announcement, the position is essential in maintaining the Embassy’s logistical operations, supporting the transport of personnel and goods, and assisting with office and event-related tasks as required. The role demands strong reliability, a safety-first mindset, and a professional attitude.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with experience in a similar driving role — preferably within a government office, diplomatic mission, or international organisation.
Proficiency in both English and Japanese is required, as is familiarity with driving in Tokyo or major cities in Japan and knowledge of local traffic regulations.
Candidates must hold a valid Japanese driver’s licence with a clean driving record. Defensive driving training or certification is an advantage, as are a strong sense of reliability, punctuality, professionalism, good communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, discretion, and attention to detail.
Job Specifications
The successful candidate will transport Embassy staff and goods safely, timely and efficiently for official duties, including documents, equipment and supplies.
Other responsibilities include assisting with deliveries and pick-ups from vendors, partner organisations or consulates; ensuring safe loading, unloading and securing of materials and equipment for transport; performing daily checks on vehicle conditions, including fuel levels, fluid levels, tire pressure and general mechanical status to ensure vehicle readiness; scheduling routine maintenance such as oil changes and inspections, and coordinating with approved mechanics for repairs; keeping vehicles clean and in good condition, both inside and out; and maintaining a log of trips, including mileage, fuel usage, destinations and time on the road, submitting records to the Administrative Officer as required.
