Meet Nana Ama Dapaah, the Apagyahemaa — an iconic and remarkable woman whose life became deeply woven into the history, royalty and influential families of Asanteman.
She was a woman whose relationships connected her to some of the most powerful and respected men of her time. Among them were Baffour Osei Akoto, who served as Otumfuo’s linguist; Nana Agyekum, the Kumasi Oyokohene; Opanin Agyeibi, a renowned goldsmith from Kwabre Safo; and Nana Fosu Gyeabour, the Bechemhene.
But perhaps her greatest legacy is the remarkable family she raised.
Nana Ama Dapaah was the mother of ten children, although sadly, one passed away at a young age. Her children included:
👑 Oheneyere Akua Durowaa (Agnes Addo Kufuor)
🎓 Prof. Emeritus Francis Addo Kufuor (Wofa Prof.) — late
🕊️ Rebecca Dodoo (Nana Akos) — late
🕊️ Mariam Addo Kufuor (Aunt Kufuor) — late
🕊️ Cecilia Campbell (Aunt Agyeiwaa) — late
🇬🇭 Former President John Agyekum Kufuor (Wofa Kofi)
🎓 Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor (Wofa Kwame)
🕊️ George Addo Kufuor (Wofa Kwaku) — late
🕊️ Josephine Kankam (Aunt Adowa) — late, mother of the current Apagyahene.
Today, only three of her children survive: former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, and Oheneyere Akua Durowaa.
From the palace to politics, from chieftaincy to academia, Nana Ama Dapaah’s descendants have left their footprints across Asante and Ghana.
Her story reminds us that behind many great families stands a remarkable woman whose influence extends far beyond her own generation.
🌿 Nana Ama Dapaah — Apagyahemaa. A mother. A matriarch. An icon of Asante.
