After the dispersal of the people of the Aduana Clan from Esumegya, Asantemanso to settle at different places in the country in or about the year 1500 the group that had settled at Nyanawase under Ansa Sasraku moved again after a series of wars with the Akans and the Gas to settle at Akwamu. In or about the year 1600, three chiefs of the Aduana Clan: Ofori Krobon (of Agogo), Ntori Nimpa (of Kwaman) and Effa kai(of Kumawu) left Akwamu and joined forces under the command of Ofori Krobon of Agogo to fight and defeat Ataara Finam the then Supreme Ruler of the Afram Plains, in a war that lasted a better part of three years. All the land controlled by the vanquished Ataara finam was annexed to the three stools who were independent of each other. With this annexation, the three stools Agogo, Kumawu and Kwamang, in common controlled some of the most extensive land possessions in the Ashanti Union. In fact, the three stool owned lands extending to Akwamu as far to the Volta Region, Brong Ahafo and parts of the Northern Region.
Meanwhile the people of Agogo had settled at Santenso where the three year war with Ataara finam was fought to a finish. Like all other Asante States the people Agogo had stayed as a separate, independent entity until the need to form a Union of States arose.
Incidentally, the people of Agogo did not take part directly in the Denkyira war in 1698 that saw the liberation of Ashanti from denkyira under King Osei Tutu, although they contributed men and materials to support the Ashanti Forces…

The Kwamanhene, Nana Abayie Ntori Nimpa II, is customary son of the Juabenhene. The Agogohene is the customary father of the Nsutahene. The Agogohene, Nana Ofori Krobon was the father of the Nsutahene, Nana Oduro Panyin. After the war the three rulers (Kwamang, Agogo and Kumawu) shared the war booty as follows. The Abamo went to Nana Ataa Akyampon, Kumawuhene’s mother. The Odwira was given to Kwamanghene and the Ntahare given to Nana Ofori Korobon. Nana Ofori Korobon later presented the Ntahara to Nsutahene, Nana Oduro Panyin who was his son, during the installation of the latter on the Nsuta Stool. Nsutahene also obtained permission to settle on the Atala Afram (Atala Finam) lands. In the war with Ataara Finam which had the 3 brother Aduana states of Kwamang, Kumawu and Agogo, the Kumawuhene then, Efa Kai lost his life at Nsaaboso. The Abamo was captured by the forces of the Kwamanghene, Nana Ntori Nimpa I, together with seven skulls of Ataara Finam (which constituted his Odwira shrine) and a set of 7 horns, known as Ntahera. Kwamang handed the Abamo (which has powers to cure infertility ) to the then Queen of Kumawu-who was said to have been infertile–in a gesture of brotherliness or clanliness, and the Ntahera horns to Agogo. The Odwira
shrine, they kept. This is why, the Kwamanghene to date, has the power to celebrate the Odwira festival. As Kumawu, celebrates its Papa festival, they should express unreserved gratitude to the
people of Kwamang who gave them the Abamo.Unfortunately, Kumawu having forgotten how Ataara Finam was conquered, is now locked in a dispute with Kwamang over ownership of the Afram lands. The fact is, the 3 Aduana stools of Kwamang, Kumawu and Agogo are the joint owners of those vast Afram plain lands. This they inherited after overcoming Ataala Finam (the then formidable ruler of that part of Ghana, with lands stretching from the Accra plains to Gonja and beyond) in a combined effort. In fact, this event, was one of the biggest and deadliest in the history of the Aduana, for which these 3 stools, esp. Kwamang distinguished themselves, if the unpalatable truth is to be said. Afterwards, the citizens of these 3 towns, whose rulers are all brothers of the Aduana clan, had free rights of access, development and so on, on any part of the plains. This unselfish, brotherly arrangement, came to a sad end, when in a moment of greed, some in Kumawu, connived and contrived, to twist the demarcations of Fuller in their favour. So in effect, Kwamang was declared landless, and was made out falsely to be a sojourner on Kumawu lands. This development, obviously caused a bitter rift between the 2 Aduana stools and their citizens, and also didn’t do Kumawu’s relationship with Agogo any good, as they knew the truth. Subsequently, relations between Kumawu and Agogo also deteriorated, for Agogo didn’t lend credence to Kumawu’s claim to sole ownership of those lands. So bitter was the rift, that, even in death, of the Kwamanghene’s and Kumawuhene’s, none of the 2 stools were present at one another’s burial and funeral rites, which was such a breach of custom, tradition and kinship ties.
By the way, it was the then Dwabenhene (Juabenhene), Nana Adaakwa Yiadom teaming up with the Kumawuhene and fought the Bokuruwa people. This the reason why the Kumawuhene’s lands,
actually extend all the way to Obo, and so too, the Juabenhene in the nearby vicinity.

In conclusion

In the historic conflict against the Guan king Ataara Finam (Atara Firam) of the Afram Plains, Kwaman (the early state that later became Kumasi) served as a key military ally. Led by Chief Nana Ntori Nimpa, Kwaman joined forces with Kumawu to assist Agogohene Nana Ofori Krobon in defeating the powerful ruler.
